Marchman Act Blog: The Broward Sheriff's Office is hosting a drug-collection program Friday

CORAL SPRINGS —

The Broward Sheriff's Office is hosting a drug-collection program Friday.

In exchange for your unused or expired medication, police are offering $5 gift cards for CVS pharmacies.

The collection will be 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the office of Rep. Ari Porth, 1300 Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs.

"We want to get these drugs out of the homes," said Christine Sawyer, who oversees the Sheriff's Office drug collections. And the programs remind people the drugs are dangerous, she said.

All medications will be incinerated. The exchange is anonymous.

Upcoming collections, also for $5 gift cards, are: in Deerfield Beach, from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 23 at the Northeast Focal Point Senior Center, 227 NW Second St., and in Pembroke Pines, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pill Box Shopping Center, 1700 NW 122 Terrace.

For information, call 954-557-1124.
