Marchman Act Blog: Prescription drug take-back event: South Floridians turned in 1.5 tons
South Floridians turned in 1.5 tons of unwanted prescription medication to authorities as part of the DEA's first nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back event, officials said Tuesday.
Law enforcement officers throughout the region collected the medications at police stations and other sites for four hours on Sept. 25 after inviting people to drop off unwanted pills and other medication — no questions asked.
The program's aim was to get people to empty their medicine cabinets so powerful and addictive prescription narcotics don't fall into the wrong hands. At the end of the collection, the drugs were incinerated. Read Full Story...
